Extremely versatile and diverse, these organisms are already being used by innovative companies to produce truly sustainable alternatives to many common products, as explained in this article. Although their production capacity is somewhat lower, this doesn’t mean they couldn’t become mainstream - hopefully, it will encourage a shift in the market economy to one based in smaller local companies producing for their community, reducing emissions as well as allowing for more sustainable, smaller scale production.
